Just Grant
Published by Grant Newton March 3rd, 2006 in Meet the AvosWho am I and what makes me Me!!
I am probably one of the more serious (and older) types in the company, the quiet analytical person sitting studiously in front of my computer and forgetting to talk to anybody when I’m on a roll. I’m quite structured in my thinking, precise in my way and probably a little dogmatic.
But, don’t be completely deceived: I also have a fun, mischievous and theatrical streak in me, my ‘Spider Man’ alter ego which certainly comes out when facilitating, coaching or speaking at conferences.
I have always believed that I’m not a good communicator, always found it difficult to connect with people and am always a little apprehensive about starting a conversation - every time I’m speaking to someone it’s like, what do I say? And what can I talk about? So I have a vested interest in training and consulting in these skills and I really enjoy helping others learn how to do this stuff.
I’ve struggled with the confidence to connect with people, start conversations, make cold calls or to start selling. I’ve grappled with my confidence when talking to 300 people from a stage and so I understand how it feels to other people who battle with these things. For only a very few does it come naturally, for others like me the skills are learnt, I know the pain and I know the steps you need to take and it’s for these reasons that I can really make a difference and get fulfillment out of what I do.

Hey Grant - you always undersell yourself! We think you’re one of the top communication coaches in the country. We think we’re cool because you’re on our team!
No Grant, you not just Grant… you OUR grant. Yes , you are one of the top communication coaches in the country but your also our rock-steadfast and reliable , practical and insightful, calm and reassuring which I think is quite important especially when your surrounded with chicks. For all the little things you do, for all the gaps you fill, for your quiet encouragement we thank you !!!
A bastion of my sanity. Grant can actually hear what women say when they talk. If he was a shrink I would pay LOTS of money for his time. As it is, just try to get Grant’s mind out of the hole it’s in…
A sharper mind you will jot find in a skills-development space. A phenom in the training room. Love working with this man.
Grant is our master facilitator. He ran an awesome strengths workshop last friday. The compliments have been rolling in. What do people love about Grant? He is real. He never sets himself up as the ‘oh-great-guru-you-who knows-everything’ expert. He speaks from his heart, tells the truth about his experiences, and liberates everyone in the room to drop their facade, even if just a little. His knowledge and experience are the solid foundations on which he builds. I learn from your courage everyday. Tracy
I enjoyed reading this about Grant as it does not sound like he has changed. We met at uni 20yrs ago and Grant was so shy and reserved but as we became friends I often saw the deep thinking, clever, insightful Grant. Yes Grant you are correct you also have a mischevious and fun side too and I was lucky enough to experience that side in those days too. Sounds like you have found a job you are passionate about and that definately appreciates your wonderful nature.
