Blog Buster…

Helllloooooo!!!! It’s me…. no really, it is! Introducing Vanessa Louise Thomas! Finally!

Many of you out there have asked the obvious question: “Why have you not yet made it onto the Avo blog site? What’s up with that? How have you managed to get away with it?”

A fair question I think, since avoiding the wrath of our blog-monster Jules, for 193 days, is quite a feat… and is surely a record! Let me tell you, it takes talent and skill to hold onto your job at Avo, without having blogged your arrival! So thank you Avos, for your patient prodding and your gentle nudging… I fear I am nearing my limit.

The upside is that I have experienced almost 6 months of life at Avo, and I can now comment on my experience with a great deal more wisdom. I can honestly say, that finding Avo, has been like finding an old over-coat in an unexpected place. When you put it on, it feels as if it were made for you… it makes you feel good, it goes with everything you have, and you start to imagine all the places you can wear it.

When I think about working at Avo…

I do not:

Wake up and wish it was the weekend

Wish away the hours of my working day

Wonder if there is anything better out there for me

Work because I have to

Fantasize about colleagues that are different from the ones that I have

Imagine all the things that would make my work life better
I do:

Wake up and look forward to the unpredictable nature of my next day at Avo

Wish that I could find a way of putting into words, the magic that I have found on this little hill in Kensington

Wonder about our projects and how best we can deliver the magic that Avo is famous for

Work in the knowledge that I have some of South Africas best people as colleagues (and friends)

Fantasize about the future of Avo and how I can meaningfully contribute to it

Imagine how life might have been had I not found my way to this extraordinary organisation, Avocado Vision

So ja, I am one of those lucky people that wake up in the morning… and really think… “hey-ho, hey-ho, it’s off to work I go…” and I literally whistle my way (all of 7km’s) to my very energising workplace.

I love being the Training Manager, I love leading my team, and I love what they teach me. I am hugely excited about the things we can do together… and I’m saying “bring it on South Africa, we are ready and waiting!”

193 DAYS!!!! It is amazing how much you have contributed to Avo in just 193 days. It has been awesome working with you and we are so very thankful for the insights and learnings you have brought with you.

So, whilst not blogging for 193 days is quite unforgivable (and you are not even a mormon!), you are forgiven on account of the wonderful energy and talent you have brought to Avo!

I must say, your blog had to be something special, having ducked it for so long! And indeed it is. Well done - you have succeeded in making Avo sound great (which is always good for prospective clients and future Avos), and you have also shown the world how positive, strong and clever you are!

I bless the day our paths joined, mate! Our road together is long and full of colour and richness!

Hey, Ness. The day I first bumped into you (literally) at Avo, I knew you were one-of-us. For me, it was love at first sight, like finding a long-lost soul sister and making a new friend, all in that moment. I am so glad you found us and I am so glad we found you. Thank-you for the way you hold us. I hope I can do the same for you.

We were debating in our Kudos and Cockup meeting the other day about the need for more consequences, taking responsibility, communication etc, etc. We were discussing approaches to managing work and people, “Love understanding” vs “we have a business to run here, Perfomance and Consequence”. THe former being the gooshy, gushy, fluffy (ok overdoing it abit) Avo way and the latter … well other businesses, like ah … real businesses. Vanessa brings both sides and will help us into the next space that we’ll be going. She’s fantastic at seeing the best in others, their postive side, she truly knows how to empathise and is just really really optimistic. But she also has her head firmly ground in the business stuff, processes, methodologies and of course she brings phenomenal training experience. So all in all is a perfect avo fit. WHATCH this space. Vanessa great to have you with us.

Hey V. I am sooooooooo happy you have joined us at Avo. You and I have come a long way together since our first intro on the sales incentive trip back in 2003! My first impression of you was - hey this chick is clever, she knows what she stands for, she has amazing passion and energy, and she likes to drink - Yeah!!!! Hmmmmm - no wonder we get along so well :)

I’m going to take a moment to thank the universe for deciding to keep us close…

    Becks xx

Ness - looks like you have made yourself rather indispensable and totally loved and adored. Not bad for 193 days in… ;)

    Hey Ness
It has been so wonderful working with you and for you. Your belief in me and your constant feedback and support are so appreciated. It is not often that a person gets to work with a manager that they get on with and that supports them - but i am so lucky to have that type of manager. I hope that we can continue to work together for a very long time!

    Hi Luca’s Barbie

What a privilidge to have you on board. Avo is incredibly fortunate to attract
team members of your calibre. Kudos to Jules for that, she knows talent when she sees it.

It has been awesome to watch you work, to see your passion, dedication and incredible talent. tell me how did you manage to become so incredible at such a young age.

My angel I am in awe of your talent!!! As much as I am envious of your move to CT, and that incredible house..and as much as you will still be an AVO, how sad life in Joburg will be without you.

Thank you for choosing Avo, thank you for the spark you bring …you are magnificent. Yeah we got her, we got her, we got her !!! Well done Jules…an incredible coup !

    Regards
    Elaine
