Liam discovers poetry to control his anger!
Published by Sandi November 19th, 2008 in General
I think one of my greatest blessings in life are the lessons I learn from my son. Liam is an ADD (our definition is Absolutely Damn Daring!) child and with that comes a lot of management from both of us. But we have a great relationship and share our thoughts with each other often. One of things Liam wanted to learn was how to manage his anger. He wanted it to just go away but we dicussed the ying and yang of life. That in all of us there is light and dark. The dark never goes away, but we have to learn how to manage the dark in our lives. It is not easy to be Liam sometimes. So we decided one way he can vent his anger was to write poems, they started off pretty angry and negative. But that was cool, they were his poems and it gave him a safe place to vent his feelings. BUT an amazing thing has happened we have discovered that Liam has a talent for writing poetry. He even got a merit award at school for his poetry. Writing poetry has become a joy for Liam and he has found ways to find the light side in the dark side. He gave permission to write this and would love to share two of his poems with you. he would really appreciate your comments and a star rating! He also thinks it is good idea to try write about the things that worry you, whether you are an adult or a child. Please can you give him a star rating.
This journey we walk together, my liam and I is the most fulfilling journey of my life… I think his advice will help us all through tough times, thank you Liam for sharing with us!
A Leaf:
A leaf falls in a pattern of life
In spring it is happy and grows
A leaf grows old like us
A leaf does not pollute
It will turn into soil
And will appear again like us!
by Liam
A Stallion:
A running stallion is like a bullet
in the wind
The mane is like the waves in the ocean
When I ride
I feel like I am a stallion

Wow, Liam - that is just such lovely work! And you have been brave enough to publish it where thousands of people can read it and learn from you!
I’m so proud that we have a poet in our Avo family!
Well done! I also give it 5 stars! *****
Sandy and Liam, mmm, you both make me think. Liam I think i understand a little bit about anger deep inside. I also battle with it in my own way. What Sandy says about there being a dark and light side is important. I know that when I sit with the Dark side its so difficult to see the other, and find the light again. Often, for me, people will not see the Dark because my outside looks fine, and its a good thing they can’t see the inside, not very pretty. Doing something with my hands like metal work or clay sculpting helps me to get out again. And for you its writing the words down in a flowing way that makes sense to you, and fantastic because it helps others think as well, and perhaps get them to understand their own dark and light better.
THanks for the thinking

Hi there Liam! Your poetry is beautiful. You join a great tradition of very gifted and special people. Poets know how to find the right words to express what they are feeling and as they write, they help others to understand what they are feeling. Not everyone is good with words. The stuff they feel is bottled up. A good poet speaks into their heart: his words whisper to their pain and to their joy. For me, today, your Stallion poem feels powerful. I love the bristling energy in your description. I ride a bicycle as a way of keeping fit and managing my emotions. I love the speed and the wind and the freedom. Most of all, I love that it makes me feel alive to this beautiful earth. Thanks for your words whispered to me.
Hey Liam
You can be very proud of yourself - firstly, for writing great peotry and secondly for dealing with anger in the most amazing way. I, like you and Grant, often have a lot of anger that i need to deal with constructively, so i am going to give the poetry a bash too.
Thanks
Jeanette
Liam, your poems moved me so much that I actually had a little cry when I read them, and now I am wiping the tears out of my eyes, so that I can see the keyboard to type to you. Your poems are quite beautiful 5* rating for both… in fact, if I could give you more than 5*’s, I would. What I particularly like about your message, is that we all have a choice about how we manage our anger, and that writing a poem, a thought, or maybe even a song, is such a clever, simple way of working through some of those crazy moments. Thank you for sharng this wisdom. You must be quite a clever young man! Look forward to more of our poetry please
Hi Sandi and Liam
You are very lucky to have each other!
Hanli
Well Done Liam!!! I have always thought that poetry is one of the most beautiful way to express youreslf and your your poems are beautiful.
Hi there Liam
I am so proud of you, and for finding the wonderful channel of poerty to express yourself when felling low.
Poetry is a solitary journey and it is truely a blessing. Just promise me one thing - that you will keep a journal and keep on writing (I have two journals dating from 1982 - 2002 i think) yes the keep on writing is important.
keep it on and lots of love….
John
Hi Liam. This brought tears to my eyes. I am certainly far from able to express my feelings as well as you can. I am very proud of you, well done! What an amazing way of dealing with your anger, you are a star! 5* plus to you. Your mom is very lucky to have such a special son, and in turn you are lucky to have a very special mom. Love you both. “Aunty” Cheryll
