“It is said that when people start a new job, they join a company. But when they leave, they usually leave a boss.”
Jules’ new article goes viral. HR Future has swept it away and has posted it in their Opinions section of their website. It’s a great article and I’d love to share it with all of you.
Check out the new ‘Bosses are a Major Retention Tool’ article here.
Managers need to get involved in the training of their staff.
Sounds simple enough, right?
Well there are a few critical things that bosses must do in order to facilitate the post-training phase of any skills workshop.
To find out what these are, check out Grant’s new article in the Star Workplace here.
Here’s wishing you all an amazing festive season and a safe and happy new year.
I thought I’d share a small poem that I found about the magic of Christmas…
Are we too grownup to feel a thrill
As we light the Christmas tree?
Are we immune to cookies,
Christmas cards and Christmas glee?
Are we too adult to “Ooh” and “Aah”
At the Christmas candle’s glow?
Are we blasé about our gifts;
Do we shun the mistletoe?
Are we too mature for carols,
For merry or for jolly?
Do the decorations leave us cold,
The ornaments and holly?
Fat chance! We’ll never grow too old
To love the Christmas magic.
A year without a Christmas
Would be boring, even tragic.
So bring it on! The candy canes,
The feasting and good cheer;
O Christmas, lovely Christmas,
You’re the highlight of the year
Thank you for all your support in 2010, we look forward to a great 2011 with you by our sides. Be safe and have a happy festive season. With love from Avo.
A mini history of Jules and Avo…

It is estimated that around one million South Africans lost their jobs last year as a result of the recession. We all at Avocado Vision thought, somehow, that we were immune. However, the recession in South Africa has, too, taken its toll on our company. Thankfully not in the form of retrenchments, but rather in the form of a company restructure.
In the last 2 weeks, Jules has published two articles in the Star Workplace that speaks to the public about our experiences as a company which has just sailed the the rough seas.
Check out the link below to read through some of our advice and learnings that we have gained from a management as well as a staff perspective during these tough times.

Hey Avo Bloggers, it’s been a great long weekend and I know we all wished it was just a day longer, so instead of having a blue monday I thought I’d share with you a Dilbert comic strip to raise your spirits for the rest of the week.
Today I thought I’d share with you all an extract from an email that we received from Top Women in Business, this email made me feel very proud of Avocado Vision and I’m sure once you read it, you will be too:
“Top Women in Business & Government and Topco Media are thrilled to congratulate Jules Newton on her prestigious award at our Top Women Awards. Her deserved award is testament to the amazing work that she has done in her personal and private service capacity towards the growth and development of South African polity, its economy, grassroots development and empowerment of all of South African women. I strongly believe that we could not have asked for a better representative. Jules is an inspiration to all women across our nation!
Top Women in Business & Government wishes her every success in the year ahead, knowing well that her good work will continue to enrich the lives of all South Africans.
From myself (Ilse Pienaar) and on behalf of the team at Top Women in Business & Government, I hope our paths will continue to criss-cross as we go about our various businesses.”
Avo, take a bow! We have yet again been honoured in the Star Workplace.
