The Media Double-Whammy!
1 Comment Published by Clayton January 21st, 2010 in General, Avo in the media
Hey Blog-readers. This week we have had a great media week with two Avo articles published in the Star. Double Whammy!
:)
The first is an interview of our very own Sandi, she tells about the unfortunate failure of her last business. The article focuses on what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening to your business. Although it was a very sore spot for Sands, her strength has enabled thousands of others to hopefully not get caught in the same situation. Well done Sands, it must have been difficult for you but it was a bold move to share your past experience with South Africa.
Check Sandi’s article out here.
Our second article was written by Jules ‘BossChick’ Newton. Her optimistic view on the recession really comes through in her latest article describing how to bounce back this year. So let’s start fresh this year and take the proverbial bull by the horns. There is no reason for 2010 to be a year of downers, so let the storm of last year bring forth the opportunity for growth.

The Time of Your Life

Destiny mag has included Jules’ thoughts in an article entitled The Time of Your Life. How much time would you say you waste per day? I’m sure some days are worse than others; deadlines, meetings, parenting, stress… These all contribute to a loss in productivity. In today’s society, women are expected to do it all - but how can we fit “it all” in and still find time to live?
Jules gives is some invaluable tips on what we can do to balance the work / life paradigm.

Jules’ new article has made it into a fantastic monthly mag called Sales Guru. The magazine is marketed as the must have tool for all sales professionals.
Our boss-chick’s article entitled “How to steer your sales team through an economic blizzard”, focusses on a simple formula: If you can increase your sales team’s activity and sales discipline, you can get your business through the tough times. And then expands on it, saying; current conditions call for even greater support and motivation for your sales team.

Jules’ new article entitled “Finding ways to reach people is a creative exercise” featured in the Star Workplace newspaper yesterday.
Less than perfect conditions have lead to trainers having to use their imagination in delivering our material effectively. Ask yourself how much it really matters to have all those worldly luxuries, like… well, like chairs and tables? For some communities, in a training hall, chairs and tables is not a must have but a nice to have.

For many, full potential goes unharnessed

During difficult times, it’s easy to lose sight of anything other than pure survival. What many companies did was to simply employ more staff to fill the gaps of the previously retrenched, but to thrive in the current economical state you can’t just shove numbers into an organisation, you need quality employees and the managers need to develop these employees to their full potential.
Jules’ new article in the Star Workplace speaks about how to use your strengths within a company to get the most out of your employees.
Having one star employee will be more valuable than having three mediocre ones.

Proud to share a job from different cities

What a great week it has been for articles and exposure? Besides Rachel’s article in the Star Workplace, and interview with Vanessa and Liezel appeared in the Verve on the 29th of September.
It’s about a fascinating new concept in South Africa about high-level job-sharing. Abroad, the job-share arrangement is sought mostly by working mothers, adults caring for the elderly and people wanting to keep up an income stream while starting up their own business; and mostly secretarial, clerical and production. In our case, however, it is a high-level management role… And that brings on a list of new challenges and benefits.
To read about these and how we are managing to pull it off check out the article here.
