In honour of Women’s Month this August, Avo Vision employees marked the occasion by donating sanitary towels to the Help Johannesburg Dream Center. This initiative is part of Avo Vision’s continued commitment to social responsibility and restoring dignity to women and girls.
According to UNICEF, three out of ten girls in South Africa miss school during their periods each month due to a lack of access to sanitary products. The stigma surrounding periods and the inability to afford sanitary pads often lead to young girls being teased or forced to use unsafe alternatives, such as clothing materials.
Avo Vision employees rallied together, collecting and distributing hundreds of sanitary towels to the Dream Center. These donations are expected to benefit numerous girls and women in Johannesburg, helping them continue their daily activities without interruption or embarrassment.
The Help Johannesburg Dream Center is a Non-Profit Company dedicated to empowering vulnerable communities, particularly underprivileged girls in high schools around Cosmo City, Diepsloot, and Kya Sand. They provide essential hygiene products like sanitary towels and support youth employment by offering training programs, interview preparation, and professional attire.
Mpume Jack, Avo Vision’s Marketing Projects Manager, highlighted the importance of Women’s Month as a time to honour the strength and resilience of South African women. She also pointed out the challenges many women face regarding access to feminine hygiene products, which can result in missed school days, health issues, and a loss of dignity.
“We believe that every woman and girl deserves the dignity that comes with access to proper sanitary products,” Mpume said. “By supporting this centre, we’re affirming the worth of these women and girls, advocating for their health and education.”
Avo Vision’s sanitary towel donation is just one of many community-driven initiatives. Every year, the organisation participates in Money Smart Week South Africa, providing free financial literacy sessions to help people manage their money, credit, and savings effectively.
