In line with the 2017/18 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor's report, entrepreneurial activity in South Africa has surged to its highest level since 2013. As economic challenges persist, one in three South Africans is turning to side hustles to supplement income and meet financial needs. Regardless of income levels, acquiring revenue-generating skills is crucial to not only pursuing dreams and ambitions, but meeting daily needs too.
Avo Vision is committed to ensuring that the participants in the SEF programme do not return to the same incomeless situation that they were in before joining this employment creation initiative. As a result, in just 2 months, 997 participants have undergone the "Boosting Your Income" training programme, offering them the opportunity to explore new income generation alternatives.
After attending these training sessions, participants express newfound confidence in their talents or skills, coupled with a desire to start businesses and manage their finances more effectively. Recognising the fundamental role of interests, talents, skills and business ideas is well-underscored in this module.
Participants enthusiastically embrace this new knowledge, believing it will guide them in the right direction. One participant shares: "I have had some thoughts on how I could retire - this workshop has given me an idea of a business I can go into in preparation for retirement.”
Another participant notes: “I have learned so many ways that I can possibly make money.”
This training also encompasses personal finance because Avo firmly believes that unless a businessperson takes their personal financial health and wealth seriously, they are unlikely to manage a business to its full potential. Thato Bogopa, assisting at Mahlasedi Day Care and Night Care in Nellmapius, attests that the "Boosting Your Income" module opened her mind, teaching her valuable business skills. She states: "This taught me that you can have different businesses and explore different funding opportunities. I feel like I just tapped into my new potential, and the stipend will help me start my food business."
Since 2009, Avo Vision has cultivated partnerships with different organisations, launching a spectrum of financial literacy and entrepreneurship initiatives aimed at fostering prosperity in the lives of South Africans. To date, our efforts have empowered over 500,000 individuals with essential financial education skills. Our content is deeply grounded in the practicalities of day-to-day money management, offering flexibility in delivery—whether as stand-alone modules or in a sequential format—allowing participants to systematically enhance their financial skills, competence and knowledge.
